Christmas Kings of War tournament at Mantic

Hello! It’s Clive here with a special blog about some inhouse gaming we’re building up to as a (sort of) Christmas celebration.  This time next week, as the resident tournament aficionado at Mantic, I shall be hosting a “friendly” Kings of War tournament for staff, in which a good percentage (around half) of us will be playing. In fact, for some people it will be their first ever Kings of War tournament.

In true fashion last-minute tournament panic fashion, a few of us have committed to trying to get a whole new army ready for it (well myself, Martin, Jonny, and Sunny if he can). I have decided to try and get an elf army ready and painted by Friday (with no less than 31 drakon models to paint… easy, right?). But fear not! Plan B is to use my tried-and-tested zombie army.

As you can see from my WIP pic… I have a LOT to do this weekend!

We’ve even managed to coerce/convince/beg Ronnie to play too. He will be using, you guessed it, his dwarfs. He reckons he’ll only have the stamina to play one game but is planning to hang around and paint scenery afterwards. His love for terrain is matched only by his love for dwarfs. However, the big question this time is… will he actually move his dwarfs from their deployment area?

From memory, which, let’s be honest, is frankly terrible lately, the contestants for this fine gathering of Mantic minds are:

• Me – Elves (or possibly undead, or quite possibly Free Dwarfs)
• Rob – Goblins (I mean that was obvious, right?) (Ed’s note – this will be the first time I take Groany Snark for a spin… what could possibly go wrong?)

• Jonny – Salamanders (so far I’m not even sure he’s glued them together)
• Sunny – Riftforged Orcs (or ogres because “they do good combat”)
• Ronnie – Dwarfs (because, come on, he has nothing else!)
• Nick – Abyssal Dwarfs (Nick has only been playing KoW for a month or two)
• Ricky – Undead
• Duncan – Northern Alliance

• Martin – Riftforged Orcs (or one of his other ‘lifelong player’ armies, I think I saw him putting his Abyssal Dwarfs together the other day!)
• Elvis – Mystery! (I mean he almost has as many armies as me, so it could be anything!)

There are more staff, but at time of writing this this is all I could actually remember.

We shall get lots of pictures and maybe even some videos up when we play, so keep an eye on the Mantic social media channels for all the action-packed gaming shots! The fun begins at 3pm (GMT) on Friday, December 4^th – Christmas jumpers are optional.
