Event Report: US Masters & Best of the Rest

Hey everyone, Kyle from Mantic Games North America here to share some stories and hobby inspiration from one of the biggest events in the USA!

For almost a decade, my greatest wargaming love has been Kings of War. Beyond having a great game to play, the best part of the KoW scene for me has always been the community. The US Masters and Best of the Rest tournaments hold a special place to many US gamers because it provides the chance to be with friends.

The US Masters is special because the top 8 players from the 8 regions of the US gather for a 64 person battle royale. The Best of the Rest also had 22 in attendance making for a 86 player event. In this format, you are reunited with players who have participated in tournaments all across the country – but due distance, only truly get together for this one event every year. Over 3 short days, there are many games, hugs, stories, beautiful armies, and bonding that centers around the great game of Kings of War.

This year, the sister events were hosted by the Mid Atlantic region at the NOVA Open in Washington, D.C. The incredible team, many you will know from Dash 28, secured a prime location for the Mantic Games events. Friday night kicked off with some Firefight games and of course – some demos of Halo Flashpoint!

It’s nights like this where everyone meets up, plays some of their favorite games, goes out for a meal, shares some drinks that truly make the US Masters experience.

Mantic loves to support players during these events. By us being there, we try to have conversations with everyone about what they’re enjoying about the game or would want to see evolved in the future. It’s an excellent opportunity to get the pulse of the game from some of its most passionate players. It allows players to feel connected with the company in a way that I think is truly unique to Mantic.

Along with the comradery, Mantic likes to support major gaming events with the Goblin Blaster Rum and event exclusive minis. Last year, Ronnie the Bard’stard was the special giveaway to players participating in the event with a full Mantic army. This year, I’ve been thrown into the mix with a Kyle ‘the God of Kings of War’ Northern Alliance themed mini. What an incredible honor for any gamer! I was lucky enough to hand these out to players in person for the first time at the Masters and Best of the Rest.

The US Masters and Best of the Rest tournaments are truly one of the best celebrations of Kings of War in the world. Having the Best of the Rest means any player can join in on the fun. Next year, the event is being held in Reno, NV at the Atlantis Casino Resort – so come out and experience what is arguably one of the most enjoyable events in the US. Meet some of the finest people you’ll ever know, make some friends, play some games, and dive into the best there is to offer from Kings of War.
