Mantic Monday – Community – Games For Heroes

18th Jul 2022

Jonny Mann

Welcome to Mantic Monday!

Every Monday we will bring you exclusive video content, behind the scenes peeks at the day to day of Mantic HQ, all your hobby and gaming tips, plus an array of exciting and engaging content from all the Mantic game systems and universes.

Recently we were contacted by Daniel From Games for Heroes. When he explained what great work they do and what they plan for the future, we jumped at the opportunity to help out.

Games for Heroes was founded in 2021 by Daniel and Colin who are both army veterans and became a registered charity on 27th May 2022. Both Daniel and Colin have battled mental health over the years and came together after finding their way into tabletop gaming. They had found something that took them away from their thoughts and demons. After realising this could help so many other people, they decided to do some research and took some inspiration from charities like “Models for Heroes” and made the decision to try and help others.

I'll hand over to Daniel to explain a bit more about what great work they do and why.

The charity’s missions and aim is to help anyone who is currently serving or who has served in the armed forces, NHS or the emergency services, as well as their families and dependents. We aim to offer a range of activities based around tabletop games, board games, RPG games and much much more, As a form of proven therapeutic treatment in the aid and support of mental health and well being. Along with helping those with cognitive problems and physical injuries caused as a result of doing their job.

We want to help the people who help and protect us, in a fun and enjoyable way.

Tabletop games and board games are an amazing and proven resource for helping support mental heath by the allowing the person to escape the shadows of their minds by getting into a fun, enjoyable hobby. A hobby that allows you to take time out for yourself, reconnect with your family over a games night or meet new and friendly people without the expectation of having to talk about anything more than the game your playing.

It's our job to go out and meet the heroes with the purpose of introducing them to gaming in a relaxed environment and teaching them some games. We help open the door to the amazing gaming community who support and help guide the heroes into a world joy, colour, adventure and laughter, so we can slowly ease some of the mental pressure allowing our heroes battle back."

We recently sent Daniel a series of starter sets and Board Games for the charity's resource collection and look forward to being able to work with and help them more in the future.

Whilst perhaps a little way off yet, we are hoping to look at running a "heroes games day" at HQ in the future.

If you would like to know more about the Charity, wish to get in touch with them, or indeed help them in anyway, you can visit their Website or Facebook.

Check back in next week for another exciting instalment of Mantic Monday!
