Mantic NaNoWriMo Week One Update
9th Nov 2016
Dave
Greetings!
We are now one week into the NaNoWriMo competition and we thought it would be a good time to send out some thoughts, ideas, AN E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR SUBMISSIONS! and an updated packet fixing some incorrect information.
Thoughts and Ideas:
1. We have already been getting requests for the e-mail address so you can submit your entries. First off, that's awesome! But may we put out a word or two of caution?
When you submit your article, that is it! You will not be able to edit it in any way, shape or form! So instead of submitting your work three weeks early, take your time and use the coming weeks to refine your story to the best it can be!
Also, even though we plan on being lenient when it comes to spelling and grammar, do not count on us being your spellckeck! If there are excessive errors to the point that we have a hard time understanding your submission, do not count on it winning. The reason we are being lenient is not so writers can be lazy, but to give a chance to those authors who do not have English as their first language and find it challenging having their work translated from one language to another.
2. If a submission is not formatted and / or submitted to the standards of the Rules and Regulations, it will be kicked back to you with a list of changes that need to be made.
This is the only exception to the rules. While we need the uniformity, we do not see it as grounds for complete disqualification. BUT! If we receive your submission and don't get to it until after the December 1st dead-line, it will be disqualified.
3. We have been doing our due diligence in making sure the word gets out to as many sources as possible, but posting to every Facebook group is daunting and some get left out by mistake.
We recommend that you join the “Ronnie the Bard of Mantica” Facebook group as it is the Facebook page specifically created for the people who love writing and all things Mantic. This way you can be sure to get all updates and information for the contest as well as joining a growing community where you can share, inspire, encourage, and help other writers like yourself and get the same help yourself!
When we first put the NaNoWriMo competition together, we gave ourselves the deadline of November 1st to have everything ready and posted. I think that decision was around October 29th ;). We knew some things had to wait to make sure all the important pieces were in place.
As many of you have noticed, there is no e-mail address to send your submission when you are done! This was done on purpose to help us focus on getting the forms and packets ready. We also wanted you to hold onto your submissions (See #1 above)! Since there have been enough requests for the e-mail address that we figure it is time to post it. We will also update the entry form so that it is listed there as well.
Please send all submissions to: [email protected].
Lastly, we put a lot of effort into giving you all clear information in each packet so you would have the best chance of winning and/or getting published. Unfortunately, one fact slipped through so we've updated it and posted it over the first packet.
The packet is, “The Garrison on Planet Exham IV” and the first “x” should read:
“the extreme drop in temperature caused by a rogue planet passing by Exham IV and pulling it out of orbit twelve years ago”
From here on out, the packet will have this change in it. But for those who have already written their story or do not get this post, we will let it slide in submissions that mention the wrong information in their story. If they are chosen for publication, we will work with the author to have the mistake fixed in a way both parties are satisfied.
Well, that's it for now! Have fun with your writing and don't forget to get out, take a walk, and enjoy Fall!
