Midweek Round-Up 29th December
29th Dec 2021
Jonny Mann
Welcome to the Midweek Round-Up. Hope you've all had a great festive season and Santa brought you lots of wonderful Mantic miniatures that you're absolutely going to get painted, right? RIGHT?!
Straight in with a splash, Death By Dragons has put together a great video on how to create quick and cheap bases for your Armada fleet. This technique looks really effective for creating bases that look as though your ships are crashing through the waves. It's an old video but we thought it was worth sharing again, as it's so useful.

Meanwhile, in the far reaches of GCPS space, Jorge Harley has really made great work of the flesh tones on this Aberration. He probably just wants a lovely cuddle... the Aberration that is, not Jorge.
Take a look at this incredible Ripper Hulk from Alfredo Del Campo, a lot of time and love looks to have gone into those sails. And the adaptation to allow the swap out of either bow weapon is very clever.
In fact, there's been a flotilla of fantastic Armada fleets sailing around social media recently. Patrick Lefèvre has given his Dwarf fleet a flashy naval camo lick of paint. The effect looks fantastic... and very original!
Dev Slaven took on the hobbyist's most difficult challenge of painting white armour and won! This his Shadow from the Overdrive rival pack. The rest of his Overdrive models look fantastic too.
Kevin Haney has also been painting oozing flesh on his Plague army for Firefight: Second Edition, the pastel tones work really well, although we wouldn't be so quick to compliment them if they were charging down the battlefield toward us!
Next up, Tactical Wargames World is busy with their series on how to quickly paint up your Mantic miniatures. This time they've painted one of the hard plastic halflings.

Although this one was painted with Contrast paints, Army Painter is just about to release their own Speedpaints line. These are designed to base, shade and highlight your miniatures with just one coat... so you can finish an army in no time.
The Starter Set is available to pre-order now from the Mantic website and is due for release in February.
As the cold nights set in here in the UK, Pete Jones appears to have given his GCPS a good strong winter coat to keep them warm on the battlefield. This conversion using the Northern Alliance Clansmen is definitely very... cool. We love to see how the community takes our miniatures and mashes them together in ways we hadn't thought of and this is certainly top of the pile.
