On the 9th Day of Xmas: Firefight in 2024
2nd Jan 2024
Dan Mapleston
Hi again everyone,
It's time for part two of our sci-fi preview, and wow - Firefight had a great year!
Firefight in 2023
Things kicked off in style with Firefight winning 'Miniatures Game of the Year' at the OnTableTop Industry Awards. This is a huge honour for the game, and we may have mentioned it once or twice...maybe more...!
And this was only the start. Things quickly kicked up a gear with a whole new faction joining the game - the sinister and ethically dubious Mazon Labs.
Later in the year we had maybe the most important release for the game since launch - Command Protocols book. This bumper-sized update book brought both lots of new content and refinements to the game. Firefight as a game system has really grown a lot this past year, and the gameplay has never been better.
We also used this opportunity to update the original Firefight Starter Set, and launch a brand new one (Assault on Exham) containing two fan-favourite armies - the insidious Veer-myn and the resolute Forge Fathers. Unsurprisingly, it's been very popular!
And then it was time to unleash new vehicles and vehicle variants, bringing some serious new firepower to every faction. Everybody's list suddenly got a lot more interesting!
There are too many cool new vehicles to show here - but make sure to check out the force lists in the Mantic Companion or faction pages on the Mantic Webstore to see the awesome ranges of units now available.
If you haven't tried playing one of the vehicle-themed 'Annihilation' scenarios yet, make sure to put it on your must-play list for 2024 - these are a whole load of fun, and allow you to play the game in a fresh new way. Rumbling tanks, imposing gunships, jetbikes and light armoured fighting vehicles go head-to-head in this game mode built fully around mechanised mayhem!
And the best news of all? 2024 is going to be even better.
You will of course also be seeing the new Asterian and Matsudan units (including all their awesome new hard plastics) come to your Firefight games, but there's more...
Let's cover some rules-y stuff first, and then talk new content.
Command Protocols FAQ
A big thank you to the ever-vigilant Firefight rules committee, who have been gathering all your feedback from the latest Command Protocols book, and have compiled everything into a handy FAQ & Errata pack HERE.
Naturally, the Mantic Companion will also be updated (in January) to match these bits of fine-tuning so that everyone is playing in sync!
Something Wicked This Way Comes
As we unsubtly hinted in yesterday's blog, the news is true that the Nightstalkers are finally coming to Firefight (and of course Deadzone as well)!
The Nightstalkers are a faction that already spans space and time, and was built around a mix of alien and cosmic-horror aesthetics. As such, it's high time that we brought their special brand of terror to dimly-lit shuttle bays, abandoned mining facilities, and off-the-record research bases!
We have some very cool background and lore coming that shows them off as the true interdimensional horrors they are. Simply the fearful knowledge of their existence is enough to draw them to you (and your homeworld) like moths to a flame...
Anyone can be 'marked' in this way by knowledge of the Nightstalker threat. Maybe you're a citizen of the GCPS hearing an urban legend, a soldier who (somehow) survived contact with their forces, or even an unfortunate security operator at a corporation facility that spots something odd on their nightly footage. It doesn't matter to them...they're coming...
Sneak Peeks
Fresh horrors await in the darkness of space. And now that you know about them, let's throw caution to the wind!
Here's a few cryptic snippets for you to check out, ahead of their full launch in May 2024.
Just what are we looking at here...?
Wrapping Up
As you can see, a good chunk of the Nightstalker forces are going to look very different from how you've met them before. We can't wait to show them off, and all their glorious alien weirdness...
For now though, let's add them to the roadmap:
It's going to be a busy and exciting six months for Mantic fans, and there's still more to reveal!
Make sure to check back tomorrow,
Dan
