The Friday Feature will bring you a plethora of great entertaining content every Friday, including new release articles, work from staff and content creators, store visits and lots more!
This week the staff here at Mantic have been painting everyone's favourite Boney Pony, the Empire Of Dust High Priest on horse. This beautiful model is currently available in the new Empire of Dust army.
"The high priests of the Ahmunites know neither bound nor taboo. In their effort to create the armies of the dead, they even raid ancient tombs of nobility, using their foul magic on the embalmed corpses of past royalty."
First up today we have Nick's fantastic effort!
He has chosen Purple for the cloth parts, giving this model a very royal aesthetic. The Armour looks great too with an icy blue finish.
With my own High Priest, I tried to emulate a ghostly undead effect. I used a multitude of layers of thinned down washes with a heavy drybrush over the top to create an ethereal look to this great model. I often like to test out new techniques and I tried this with the base, using large grain flock then drybrush over, rather than simply using sand. In hindsight sand would have definitely been more effective but you live and learn.
On the opposite side of the spectrum (and the opposite side of the pond) Kyle has opted to use lots of colour in his work and its absolutely stunning! Particularly on picking out the gem stones and the green flame.
Pat also opted for opulence with vibrant golds and regal greens. He's added tall grasses to the base too that help give it a bit more detail.
Finally, Duncan has done a smashing job on his High Priest, using a mix of gold and silver on the armour plates to offer some interesting contrast. The crisp white face really makes this Priest look quite intimidating and eerie.
Every month we will be showcasing a new release or models from a new range to help you get inspired and show you lots of unique ways to paint and maybe even convert these stunning models.
