TERRAINCRATE THREE – RUINS AND SCATTER

Hi Ronnie here – yet again. It is almost like I am super excited about something!!!
Yesterday, I gave an overview of TerrainCrate 3, and why and what we were trying to achieve.
Today, I would just like to focus in a little deeper on the scatter terrain and ruined building pieces. While the new trees are just as applicable to fantasy gaming tables as sci-fi the ruins, the new scatter terrain is very much aimed at the futuristic gamer. Whether that is a grim dark future, a galaxy far, far away – or into the Infinity of space! And of course your amazing Deadzone and Firefight gaming tables – this terrain is perfect for all sci-fi wargamers!!!
So, a little known fact was that back when I ran the GW studio one of what I consider my’ big successes’ was getting the first waves of the Citifight terrain designed and released to co-ordinate with the release of the second edition book. It always struck me a weird that everyone had great armies, yet when a book came out detailing fighting in ruined cities the advice was ‘now go and get a pringle can’!
We worked and developed a great set of ruins that we ‘lego’ formed to allow lots of conversations and modelling…but the range never really developed the scatter aspects, and I think wargames tables are all the worse for it.
Well, I still love terrain and having spend a lot of time building the scatter terrain for my Deadzone table I realised that this problem still needed solving…so may I introduce crate two of TC3 - Ruins and Scatter.
RUINS
These are solid pieces of plastic, designed to be on the gaming table asap. The detail is right there to be painted and they act as barricades, offering cover and defensible positions, or blocking clean LoS depending on your game!
The first are the 'damaged walls'...
The wall pieces have a straight edge on one side and 'rubble' on the opposite which means they are not only aesthetically beautiful pieces of table detail – but they can also be used to actually mark the edge of buildings.
For example, if you line up the corner of straight piece in line with ruined buildings they can be used to mark the edges of the building – and they work well with and without a template.
SCATTER
The other bit of scenery I have had a hard time locating was really useful scatter pieces. There are lots of generic sets but not thematic pieces that also work well on your wargames table, especially skirmish games.
These are bits of battlefield debris, and piles of crates and smashed up barrels. These are all designed to be both eye candy, and also great of cover and for breaking clear LOS.
These bits will also be very useful on dioramas, and just adding character and interest to any gaming table.
The Ruins and Scatter crate will again be jam-packed with value. The ruins, as you can see from the photos, are big pieces of terrain….and on a wargaming table you need enough for all the buildings - so you are going to get lots of them!
So, I hope you are as excited for bringing your gaming tables some new life and will come and join us on the Kickstarter, which will go live on Monday at 3pm.
Many thanks!
Ronnie
