The Heroes of Dungeon Saga Origins – Rordin
29th Apr 2024
Dan Mapleston
Welcome back adventurers! It's time to learn about the next member of our band of intrepid heroes, as they prepare to embark on their journey.
And this is an addition to the party that will get Dwarf fans everywhere crowding around the gaming table...
Every Dwarf Has His Day
“I don’t like any of this bloody politicking, Korl. My father always used to say that any problem that couldn’t be solved with an honest day’s toil or at the end of an axe wasn’t worth bothering with.”
The King’s chief adviser and oldest friend took a moment before he responded.
“Indeed, and yet the world was a very different place back then. To venture back into Dolgarth in your father’s reign would have been unthinkable. Yet think it we must, if we are to uphold the glory of him and his ancestors.”
The King grunted and took another sup of his ale. He was wise enough to see the sense in his friend’s words, and alert enough to the honeyed way in which they had been chosen.
“So who do I send? The humans are going to be suspicious enough as it is. Who do I rest this great duty on, Korl?”
“Well. There’s always your nephew...”
The King spluttered, ale foam flecking from his lips and dappling his beard in his surprise.
“Rordin? Are you bloody insensible, Korl? Since we sent him away he’s practically gone native!”
“Exactly. He’ll fit right in. He’ll be a nice neutral presence that will keep them all happy. But whatever you think of the lad, he’s still his father’s son, and a damned good fighter. Plus, a trip like this might give him that spark of the ancestors that we couldn’t ever instil.”
Golloch was silent a few moments, and Korl swore he could hear the cogs turning in his King’s brain as he mulled the idea over. Finally, he took another long pull of his ale and wiped his beard with the back of his hand.
“Fine. Send a party to the Golden Horn and find whatever ale house or tavern he’s set himself up in. It's about time he remembered where his loyalties lie. They'll need to sober the little sod up first, no doubt.”
“As you wish, sire.”
Rordin, the Dwarf Fighter
Rordin has been living amongst the humans of the City of the Golden Horn for so long now that he has – somewhat to the annoyance of his king –started to pick up many of their customs and manners. As the nephew of King Golloch himself, Rordin was always something of a black sheep within the noble family, and some mutter that his diplomatic posting to the Basilean capital was more of an exile, in order that he could not cause further shame to the family.
Where most dwarfs are dour and insular individuals, Rordin is positively cheerful and fond of socialising (so long as there is strong ale involved). For all his faults, he is a fearsome and capable warrior, and much as Golloch despairs of his foolish ways, he respects his abilities. As a well-known figure in the city, as well as a member of the noble lineage, Rordin makes an ideal choice to send down into Dolgarth at the head of the party.
Armed & Armoured
Rordin is as sturdy as they come, with the highest armour value of the whole party plus a special ability allowing re-rolls when defending.
And he's not just good at soaking up damage - he can dish it out as well, rolling almost as many dice as Orlaf - the massive barbarian! He's not without his shortcomings however, having no ranged attack and the lowest movement value of all the core game heroes.
This means that like Orlaf & Madriga, he's going to need to work as a team player to make it through the Halls of Dureg...
Before every quest, Rordin can choose which of his ‘feats’ will be available for the upcoming mission. These are special once-per-quest abilities that let you perform powerful moves when it really counts.
Check his feats out below, and get ready to start kicking unwanted trespassers out of Pannithor's dwarfen holds!
